Happy Friday Metalheads!  Today we’re gonna take a trip back to 1983 to the self-titled debut album by Bon Jovi for the track “Runaway.”

“Runaway” was originally recorded in 1981 with Jon Bon Jovi and a group of studio musicians known as The All Star Review which included  Hugh McDonald – bass, Tim Pierce – guitar, Frankie LaRocka – drums and Roy Bittan – keyboards. The keyboard intro for the song was written by Mick Seeley, who eventually went on to join Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes.

In 1983, New York radio station WAPP (103.5 FM) held a contest to find the best unsigned band and the song, the first single off their debut album won. “Runaway” went all the way to #39 on the Billboard Top 100 chart in 1984.

“Runaway” is one of the few songs Bon Jovi still plays live today from their older material and it is one of the songs they are most proud of. Check out the video below that introduced Bon Jovi to the world.
