VIXEN – EDGE OF A BROKEN HEART

VIXEN

Happy Wednesday Metalheads! Hope you’re having a great week so far. To continue our “Metal Women Who Rock” series today we’re going back to 1988 to the debut self-titled album by Vixen for the track “Edge of a Broken Heart.”

The song written by Richard Marx and Fee Waybill reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1988 and the album was also co-produced by Marx. The success of the album helped Vixen to secure supporting slots on tours with Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions and Bon Jovi, as well as headlining their own shows as well.

Vixen broke up in 1992 due to musical differences but tried reuniting a few times with different members of the original band in each version. In 2012, guitarist Jan Kuehnemund was planning to reunite the original Vixen lineup with singer Janet Gardner, drummer Roxy Petrucci and bassist Share Ross but sadly was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2013. The remaining members decided to carry on the Vixen name in her honor.

The band is currently planning to release a new album in 2019, however singer Janet Gardner has since left the band and was replaced with Femme Fatale singer Lorraine Lewis along with current members Roxy Petrucci, Share Ross and Britt Lighting.

KREATOR – BETRAYER -METAL REWIND

Kreator-band

Today we take a trip back to 1989 to a song from the fourth album by the German band Kreator called “Extreme Aggression” for the song “Betrayer.”

Kreator released a video for the song which was heavily featured on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball and “Extreme Aggression” was the first album by the band to be released on Epic Records in the United States. While the band had gained a large fan base from touring with D.R.I. in 1987, the video helped to put them on the map and secure a spot on tours with Suicidal Tendencies and Coroner throughout North America.

Although the lineup has changed over the years, their current lineup has been the same since 2001 and in 2010 signed a record deal with Nuclear Blast. To date the band has released 14 albums, including the album “Gods of Violence” in 2017. In an interview with “Guitar Interactive” in 2018, singer/guitarist Mille Petrozza said that the band plans to take 2019 off to record their new album with an anticipated summer 2020 release date.

DORO – UNHOLY LOVE

Happy Wednesday Metalheads! Hope you’re having a great week so far. To continue our “Metal Women Who Rock” series, today we’re going back to 1990 to the self-titled album by German vocalist Doro Pesch for the track “Unholy Love.”

Doro, who fronted the band Warlock from 1982 -1989, changed her style for this album going in more of a solo direction than her debut solo album, “Force Majeure.” Produced by Gene Simmons, the record includes a cover of the KISS song “Only You” from their “The Elder” album. Current KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer, who was in Black n’ Blue at the time, not only played guitar on the album but also also co-produced it as well with Pat Regan.

I interviewed Doro a number of years ago and she was one of the sweetest people I have ever spoken to. She was extremely down to earth and I felt like I had known her my whole life. If you haven’t seen her live, make sure to check her out, she is phenomenal.

Today we take a trip back to 1988 to a band from Los Angeles, CA called Heretic and a track off their first full-length album, “Breaking Point” called “Enemy Within.”

Heretic founded in 1985, made their debut on the Metal Massacre, Volume 7 compilation released in 1986. After a few band lineup changes, vocalist Mike Howe, who later went on to sing for Metal Church released “Breaking Point” on Metal Blade Records. The song “Enemy Within” is a self explanatory title about being your own worst enemy and letting your conscience get to you.

Shortly after the release of “Breaking Point”, Heretic broke up due to Mike Howe’s departure, but reformed in 2011 and released, “A Time of Crisis” in 2012. Metal Blade released a 3 CD box set in 2013 which contains “Breaking Point”, their “Torture Knows No Boundary” EP, bonus tracks and a live DVD which features footage from shows performed in 1985 and 1986. The band released their third studio album “A Game You Cannot Win” in 2017.

BANG TANGO – SOMEONE LIKE YOU

bangtangoband

Happy Wednesday Metalheads! Today in the final installment of this month’s hair band series we going to take a trip back to 1989 to the debut album by Bang Tango called “Psycho Cafe” for the track “Someone Like You.”

The band which formed in 1988, had been playing in clubs around the Sunset Strip. As the band gained popularity several record labels were interested in the band before they signed with MCA Records. “Someone Like You” received substantial airplay on MTV, especially on Headbanger’s Ball and the album reached #58 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1989. The success of the song and album led to tours with Cheap Trick, L.A. Guns and Bulletboys.

After two more albums the band broke up in 1996, but reformed with original members singer, Joe Leste and bassist Kyle Kyle only.  While they collaborated together in different musical projects, the band once again came to a halt in 1999 and Joe Leste went on to form the band Beautiful Creatures in 2001.

Joe started the band up again in 2003, but he is the only original member of the band currently. There has been talk of a new album, but there is no release date as of yet.
