Today we take a trip back to 1986 to the third album by Fates Warning called “Awaken The Guardian” and the last album to feature one of the great vocalists in metal, John Arch.

All of the songs on “Awaken The Guardian” were written by John Arch and guitarist Jim Matheos except for “Giant’s Lore (Heart of Winter)” which Arch wrote with Frank Aresti and “Time Long Past” written solely by Jim Matheos. The album has been re-issued 3 times and the last re-issue in 2005 includes a video of the band playing live at the now defunct Sundance club in Long Island in 1986. The lineup for “Awaken The Guardian” includes: John Arch – Vocals, Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti – guitars, Joe DiBiase – bass and Steve Zimmerman – drums. If you’re a fan of Fates Warning, this is definitely a classic from a band that heavily influenced American power metal.
